Kodiak is the second largest island in the United States and separated from the Alaska mainland by the Shelikof Strait. At its greatest point, Kodiak Island is nearly 100 miles long, 60 miles wide and without a doubt a sportsman’s paradise. Kodiak Island is more commonly recognized by the big game hunter as the home of the majestic Kodiak brown bear, but this hunting paradise also offers opportunity for one of the least hunted species of the deer family ~ the Sitka blacktail.

This hunt begins with a greeting from your charter pilot at the Kodiak airport. From there you will fly over some of the most pristine country left in the world. Your destination is a secluded bay on the northeast side of the island. Here you will be greeted by your host for this hunt who has been entertaining hunters on Kodiak for nearly 30 years.

Sitka blacktail populations on Kodiak are in excellent condition, thus during a day’s hunt you will have the opportunity to observe numerous trophy bucks along the beaches and alter thickets right from the deck at the lodge. This Sitka blacktail hunt is for 7 full days and based from a modern lodge located in the heart of blacktail deer country.

Because this hunt is conducted during November you might as well bring along your shotgun, as you will be at the lodge during peak sea duck migration. Sea duck hunting provides some great shooting during the middle of the day when you aren’t hunting deer. With 10 different species of waterfowl to choose from, you never know what species is coming into the decoy spread next.
